The trip and stay in Tibet was during 9/11. The “War on Terror” started, heavy military vehicles drove close to the Tibet/Afghan border. I was stuck in Tibet. No civil flights. Banks closed. The black plaque broke out around Lhasa and I was seeing myself walking back to Germany.

Locals in remote villages, especially old people, were prostrating themselves in front of me. They thought I was much older than they were, they wanted to show their respect. They interpreted my blond hair as grey – they had never seen something like this in their lives.
